Zhejiang Kaibo Pressure Vessel Co., Ltd. Makes Strides in 70MPa High-Pressure Hydrogen Storage Composite Cylinder Technology

Understanding (1)

Zhejiang Kaibo Pressure Vessel Co., Ltd. a pioneer in the field of high-pressure hydrogen storage technology, has been steadily advancing in the development of 70MPa high-pressure composite cylinders. These cylinders play a crucial role in the clean and efficient utilization of hydrogen, a renewable and eco-friendly energy source.

Hydrogen, often hailed as a clean, safe, and efficient alternative energy, is essential in reducing dependency on traditional energy sources. Storage technology, such as high-pressure composite cylinders, bridges the gap between hydrogen production and utilization by storing this energy in a stable form for convenient use.

In the context of hydrogen-powered vehicles, hydrogen storage tanks are the second most significant cost component after batteries. Recognizing the importance of this technology, Zhejiang Kaibo Pressure Vessel Co., Ltd. has embarked on a journey to contribute to the global hydrogen economy.

Global Hydrogen Landscape:

Internationally, governments and industries are actively promoting hydrogen adoption. The European Union (EU) initiated the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking in 2008 and set a target to achieve 300,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2025. By the end of 2018, 19 EU countries had hydrogen refueling stations, with Germany leading the pack with 60 stations. The EU's ambitious plans project 1,500 stations by 2025.

Understanding (2)

In China, the "China Hydrogen Industry Infrastructure Development Blue Book" was released in October 2016, outlining the nation's goals for hydrogen infrastructure development in the short, medium, and long term. This highlights the Chinese government's commitment to advancing hydrogen technology.

Japan, too, has made significant strides in hydrogen technology, aiming to have 200,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2025. With 96 hydrogen refueling stations at the end of 2018, Japan is making substantial progress in realizing its hydrogen vision.

Zhejiang Kaibo's Journey:

Zhejiang Kaibo Pressure Vessel Co., Ltd. began its journey in high-pressure hydrogen storage technology in 2006 in collaboration with Tongji University. We initiated the national 863 project, "High-Pressure Container Hydrogen Storage Technology," which successfully passed the Ministry of Science and Technology's acceptance in 2009.

The company's milestones include:

In 2012, we successfully developed plastic-lined glass fibre fully wrapped LPG cylinders, accumulating experience in Type IV low-pressure cylinders.

In 2015, the company established a project team dedicated to the development of 70MPa Type IV cylinders.

In 2017, Zhejiang Kaibo collaborated with FAW Group and Tongji University to undertake the "Development of 70MPa Vehicle Hydrogen Storage Systems" as part of the national key research and development program.

In 2017, Zhejiang Kaibo Pressure Vessel Co., Ltd. received a certification from the Shanghai Special Equipment Supervision and Inspection Institute for our hydrogen composite material cylinders for vehicle use.

Meticulous Development Process:

The development journey for the 70MPa high-pressure composite cylinders involved several crucial phases:

From July to December 2017, the company finalized cylinder design and conducted mechanical performance design.

In 2018, we focused on material development, plastic lining forming, and carbon fibre winding process research, culminating in the successful development of the A-round cylinder.

Throughout 2019, the company made strides in plastic lining forming, carbon fibre winding, drafted enterprise standards for 70MPa Type IV cylinders, and developed B-round and C-round cylinder samples that met assessment criteria.

In 2020, we optimized plastic lining forming and carbon fibre winding processes, conducted batch production, and tested cylinder performance. This resulted in the development of the D-round cylinder, which fully met performance standards, and the submission of enterprise standards for 70MPa Type IV cylinders for review by the Cylinder Standards Committee.

Outstanding Achievements:

During this journey, Zhejiang Kaibo Pressure Vessel Co., Ltd. earned recognition as a national high-tech enterprise and secured 26 patents, including 7 invention patents and 19 utility model patents, in the field of hydrogen storage cylinders.

Our patents encompass a range of technologies, including: 70MPa hydrogen storage cylinder,  glass fibre fully wrapped inner liner composite cylinder and its manufacturing process, 70MPa ultra-high-pressure composite material cylinder.

and hydrogen fuel cell storage cylinder, etc

Zhejiang Kaibo Pressure Vessel Co., Ltd.'s dedication to advancing hydrogen storage technology is evident in our meticulous development process and the successful creation of innovative, high-quality hydrogen storage cylinders. As the global demand for clean energy solutions continues to grow, our achievements contribute significantly to the realization of a sustainable hydrogen economy.
